June 6, 201411 yr A larger Medium flat rate box came today Just a common Stanley #5 jack plane.  Doesn't look too bad, and will just get a tune up. Nexta knuckle capped 9-1/2 clone of a Stanley block plane.  This one will get the full rehab.   NextA Stanley #620 Eggbeater drill, with a label no less! Run well, everything works on it, too.  Bummed out that there wasn't any drill bits inside the handle, though.  Finally the last item in the box was a "kit" from DRI Industriesall the hardware I need to build a 12" (or larger) fingerclamp, all I need to do is supply the jaws.   Hmm, I MIGHT just have some red Oak that might be of some use for this.   $46 to get the full of goodies , counting the shipping, not too bad a deal? Looks like I can get something done down in the Dungeon Shop ( cue the Madd Scientist Laughter..) Planer? I'm the 'planer', and these are what I use...

June 7, 201411 yr Author Ok, here we go: The Stanley #5 is a type 17, from about 1942-1945 era ( doubt if it went ashore in Normandy, though) The little Knucklecap block is by Columbis Wood Tool Mfg Co. from about 1924-25 era ( just a wee bit before my time) The Eggbeater is from the 1940s.  It even has a Stanley Tools Label still on it. Hyperkitten guy is trying to sell one just like it for almost $90 ( ouch!!!) As for the Made in Taiwan kit.  Well, I'm still decyphering the words on it. BUT, making some progressabout half the holes are done....The ones that allow the jaws to pivot a bit will be next.   Maybe have to make one important change to the plans, though.  Since I don't have a 9/16" Forstner bit, I just leave the 5/8" one in the drill press. Did find out that a dull bit cutting through Red Oak .......STINKS like a burning tea bag.   Can still smell that stuff... Planer? I'm the 'planer', and these are what I use...
