June 10, 201412 yr Back is quite sore, been off work for over a week now, and had an MRI this morning. Need something to do... Went down to the Dungeon Shop, picked up the oil stone. Gave the right hand side of a D-7's teeth a few swipes. Trying to cure it of curving to the right during a cut. Tested the "new & improved" saw on some Pine/Fir boards. It cuts FAST, and it cuts a bit rough, but it followed the line perfectly. When along and cut about six or seven planks down to 30". Couple needed to have an edge jointed. This one still had the tongue and grooves on. The red thing is the Corsair Scrub Jack. It has a 8" radius curve on the iron's edge. It WILL take down rough stuff...FAST. Followed up with a longer plane to get the edges straight. Will come back later and plane the faces smooth. Why would I need these boards for Maybe a work table for the upstairs? Stay tuned....
June 10, 201412 yr Author Well, got bored sitting around on my a... So, I got six boards face planed, and then a test fit before the glue up Hmmm, photo shows up?? Yep, made a mess. Free lumber though, all it takes is a little work. Mainly with those two or three planes Two jack planes, and that LONG jointer. Other than resharpening after a found nail, no electrons were harmed... Planer? I'm the 'planer', and these are what I use...
June 11, 201412 yr Author Ok, day 2 of the therapy sessions. Top is now all glued up, and waiting til tomorrow to exit the clamps. Need apron stock. 2 long ones, and two short ones. A little bit rough, so a S4S with the Jack planes was done. Had some grooves still attached. The Corsair Scrub Jack was used, the "before" Nasty Well, after a couple minutes (the after) edge was ready for a longer jack plane A Stanley #5-1/2. Edge was now straight and square. Other edge was full of saw marks. Tried out the new guy A Stanley #5. Made some decent curlie things. The Stanley #31 was used on the longer aprons. As for the face grain "Next!" After making sure there were NO NAILS, a Sargent #414c was sent down the length It did tend to get buried as the session wore on And the Jumbo Jack cleared things off. Filled a 5 gallon bucket with shavings. Next up......well, a table does need some legs, so I try to find a few to use, or make. So far, the smooth planes have stayed in the tool chest, haven't needed them.....yet. Stay tuned.
June 11, 201412 yr Author Hmm, maybe I should do this as a Blog? Not sure which direction this project will go, as of yet. May get "Very Interesting" later on... Smooth planes have yet to even peek out of the chest.....
