Haven't been at the lathe this week, been making a pen presentation box-

The dark oval is the actual "carpenter's mark" used to identify the location of a mortise/tenon when a structure was built. This particular beam was removed from a cupola built in 1818. The box still needs some more sanding and a finish. There's also a second one in the works.

Very interesting, really enjoy re-use of old woodwork like this.
btw, recently re-turned a very old Walnut column, it kept gumming the tools like mad but other than that went well.
