June 15, 201412 yr Lew, I've been to the wall twice. It is a sobering visit and both times I was there the wall was ice cold but the temps were in the 90s.
June 17, 201412 yr Thanks for sharing this Lew. I have never been, and I do not think I could ever understand the scope with out going. We did have the traveling wall come to our town a couple years back, and just the site of that replica, and the vets in our town who visited it was touching enough, I can only imagine the real deal. I thought the traveling wall was fantastic, it gave our veterans who could never afford a trip to DC, a chance to see the wall and the names of the men they served beside. Just a thought, I bet our government could cut enough waste in one program alone and afford to send every Vietnam vet who could not otherwise afford to do so, to the wall. Hmmmm
June 17, 201412 yr Author Amen, John! We donated to the WWII memorial, when it was built and had my Dad's name placed it the register. Unfortunately he passed away before it was finished. There are so few of the Greatest Generation left. The cost of one of "Hawaiian Vacation", by our president, could probably send them all, in style and luxury, to see it.
