July's Project - FINISHED!!!

Featured Replies

A friend from church and I recent bid and won a job at the local university library.  The job consisted of re-vamping an L shaped counter by lowering one full side of the counter and moving the modesty panel inward 10 inches.  Here are the pictures of the job  that were this morning before we trimmed out the end caps.  Notice that the original counter was the same height ( about 40") as the taller counter on the left side.  Then the middle counter was lower a couple of years ago to a 34" height.  Now this counter that wraps back to the right is 30" tall.  Sure was a challenge.  I wish I had taken some "before" pictures but I promise that I'll take some of the finished project.  Hopefully we'll finish this week.

Here's the left side of the counter and the original height.  The partition on the floor originally was mounted perpendicular to the counter where the solid vertical board is now.

This section was lower a couple of years ago.

This is the section that we lowered and moved the modesty panel in 10 inches.  We have two oak support legs that will go under the front edge so that if (and when) students sit on the countertop, it won't break.

Finished it up this morning.  We had 80 man hours in it.  Carpet installers will be in next week.  Notice the leg we put on the front.  We figured students would use it as a place to sit and we didn't want to replace the top somewhere down the road.

Nice Job! I guess in the summer there were not too many patrons to say "SSSHHHHHHHHHH!!!"

It was pretty cool running a miter saw in a library.  We were nice and put the air compressor in the back office and closed the door.

Nice work, Ron.

Man you have been busy and that look awesome.

Andrew and I did a job in the local library here a few years back. They were open when we were working. Running a router in the library while people are reading is quite a distraction.

Nice job.

Pretty danged cool Ron, working in the library, that must of been a hard one to do since you cannot be noisy at all :)

I like the wood work in the building, it looks like a nicely done library to begin with. These are great jobs, very interesting and a break from the shop, how'd you get that end cap off, sledgehammer or gently prying and tapping?

Interesting job. Looks great. Very nice indeed.

Thin bars and gentle prying. The corners were a bear to remove.

Well, we finished today. Check out the photos.

Good thinking on that "bench leg", Ron. You just know they will park their derrieres on it.

Nice job. Can't tell any alterations were ever done.

And now we wait for the check.......

Wow that is awesome and awesome!

Beautiful Job Ron. I can't wait for you to get here and redo my shop!

While moving the old topics from our archive forum up to our operational forum this morning, I came across this topic by Ron Dudelston, and thought I'd bring it to the forefront again, I love this work, great job and man, what an operation!

A question I always like to ask is, Ron, have you been back there, and have you gotten any feedback on this project after all was said and done?

Not really John.  There have been no complaints so I have to assume they were pleased with the work.  The check didn't bounce either.

 That's all we can ask for Ron! The world is right then! Thanks for the follow up.
