August 4, 201411 yr The good news? Found a use for an old jig Three blocks of 1x4 pine. Two of which are spaced 3/4" (more or less) apart. I screwed this to the bench top. It had a new use, and an old use. First the new use This is a corner for the tool chest being fitted up. I clamped the leg part in the jig. Then grabbed a chisel and a whacker and chopped a mortise. Since the jig is directly over a leg on the bench...no bounce. No slip-sliding out of a wooden jawed vise. Might just be a keeper for chopping a mortise or two. The bad news? Well I needed a groove routed. Clamped the victim into the jig, went about halfway along...and snapped the 3/8" straight bit off. I am now down to just ONE more bit. And three more grooves to cut. G. Roseboom's Plough plane will only cut 1/4" wide stuff. Try this again. I did get the second panel all glued up This is the inside. Still have to attach a 1x1 cleat, and two metal "Mending plates" Cleat to hold the floor, and the plates to keep th top corners from falling apart sometime down the road. Those flutes showing up, are the flutes from the headboard posts. Not enough of the flutes for the outside, and they were in the wrong spots anyway. So, out of sight, out of mind. Tried a different lighting approach tonight, tired of the "Wash-out" effect. So, turned off the Shop light over the bench Same camera location, just the basement lights are on. Flash does not work on this camera. One bit of luck? When I sat the first panel down onto the floor, on it's own two feet, it just stood there, not even a wiggle. Like a vaulter nailing a landing. Wonder IF this one will do the same? Tomorrow, maybe I can start on a couple end panels.....IF I can cut a few more grooves.. Stay tuned, this could get Batty....
