steven newman Posted August 17, 2014 Report Posted August 17, 2014 The Tool Chest has a lid, now Ah, ut wait, under the hood is something special There is that bright overhead light shinning up. Maybe a shot before the install Used that $10 Sears Craftsman 13" scrollsaw to make some wooden items. Top saw is a Pheonix Warranted Ship saw, bottom is a Disston D-8 crosscut saw, about 1953 era. My two full sized saws have a home. Hate doing hinges, have to set things kind of funny on the bench Just to get the screws to go in. Planer? I'm the 'planer', and these are what I use... Gene Howe Posted August 18, 2014 Report Posted August 18, 2014 I'm happy to see that chest covered, even tho it's good looking one. Great way to store those saws.Got a question, Steve. You called the top saw a "ship saw". What is a "ship saw" and what was it's special use?Inquiring minds want to know.Gene'The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him.' G. steven newman Posted August 18, 2014 Author Report Posted August 18, 2014 A Ship Saw is a pointed version, meant to cut curved items on a ship.  The pointy end can do a curve, about like a sabresaw.  ave used it in both a yellow, plastic mitrebox, and as a crosscut saw.  Note: That D-8 was a Painted Saw I rescued.   Teeth were full of paint.  Once the paint was removed, some very SHARP teeth appeared.  There is even an etch on the saw plate.  Almost like someone had painted a new saw....Planer? John Moody Posted September 18, 2014 Report Posted September 18, 2014 You make some of the neatest things Steve. A great tool chest and I love the saw storage in the lid. Excellent! Quote
