Tuesday at 10:59 PM1 day comment_382428 I am constructing my first rail and style door. Always before they were M & T doors. When you glue in the stile to the rail there is some end grain. Do you put glue sizing or glue on the end grain to seal it before you glue the door together? In my cases I am using a flat panel with space balls. Report
Tuesday at 11:03 PM1 day comment_382429 I just put glue on both surfaces and clamp. Haven’t had any failures yet. Glues today are really strong even with end grain Report
Yesterday at 02:08 AM1 day comment_382434 I always put glue on the tenon and mortise areas (green color). IMO, the shoulder and cheek areas (blue areas) are optional. When you slide the tenon into the mortise, glue will flow out of the mortise onto the cheek and shoulder areas and onto other areas that you do not what the glue to be. Danl Report
Yesterday at 03:19 AM1 day comment_382436 In a recent presentation by Titebond's technical service manager he recommended one of two things:* apply some glue to the end grain and let it soak in for a few minutes, then add more and assemble the jointuse the Quick and Thick glueI've used the latter on many mitered picture frames and it's worked well for me.However, most of the strength will be on the faces of the tenon, but little more won't hurt.
