I ended up with a 2 lvl fusion about 8 years ago and although I had high expectations it really did not help a whole lot. I've had more needles in my back than I care to think about, have learned to just suck it up over the years. Rock Report
October 3Oct 3 Popular Post comment_381555 In my 30's I had lower back pain, mostly managed with ice and ibuprofen. Then I mixed 60 tons of concrete in a small Harbor Freight mixer, using a long handled shovel for loading the plant mix. That exercise fixed it, and I have ever since considered myself to be one lucky guy!Nothing in the works for me this weekend. Maybe run a new vent for the dryer.Picked up some scaffold frames this morning before heading in to work. Going to have a busy weekend next week I think, back in New Mexico.Labor day weekend over and only half done. With any luck, stucco over the Thanksgiving break. Edited October 3Oct 3 by JWD Report
October 3Oct 3 Popular Post comment_381569 fixing a window frame, fixing a picture frame, maybe wash the car and sweep the garage. Report
October 3Oct 3 comment_381570 Spending way too much time trying to build a little cart for under the drill press with "what I have left over" from other projects. Never seem to have quite what would be "ideal" so revise/adapt/make do. At least I'm clearing out my stored plywood!! Report
October 3Oct 3 Popular Post comment_381573 so i'm on the loo yesterday, just finishing up, and i hear this large CRASH from the great room. wth?come out, and find a picture, the glass, and the remains of a frame on the floor. thankfully, the glass was not broken.some years ago, i had made this frame, about 30x42, out of some rustic pine i had laying around, stained a light reddish color, glued on some turquoise beads (about the size of your thumb) on each corner (8 total), and it has hung on the wall quietly since then. until yesterday. a little detective work, and i see that the miter joint glue connections had failed. hmmmm....so i take the parts down to the shop this morning, clean things up, but #20 biscuit slots in each corner, and reglue. when i pop it out of the clamps, i'll add some trim head screws to each joint to reinforce the connection. i think i may paint it black, and leave off the turquoise bits. it's handy being able to fix things, but i'd rather not have to fix things twice. lesson learned on frame construction. other frames i made after this one i did reinforce the miter joints in some manner.bought a frame for this pic though, going in my office later.taken monday morning, out my front door. we rarely see rainbows here, even rarer are morning rainbows, looking west. October 4Oct 4 comment_381587 Still working on an excavation project to clean up a ditch and take down the large ( about 8-10 feet tall) hill as part of the ditch. One side of ditch has been cleaned up and regraded. Decided that rather than digging and hauling it would be better to dig and pile so I can move to holes and depressions later. Took a while for me to learn how to dig with bucket (points added). Push into hill, let off accelerator, lift bucket slightly, And repeat. Hoping to et the top layer and trees cleaned off in maybe two weeks. Report
October 4Oct 4 comment_381613 so my tenant has some ideas on how to "improve" the guesthouse: replace the 16x16 carpet tiles with 2x2 pieces of birch plywood; build some plywood and cushion seating/booth area; install a kiln in my shop......this from someone trying to save $$$...how about living with what you have and saving your $$$ for something more important than the feeling of a "warmer" flooring option? sigh.... October 5Oct 5 comment_381633 after sleeping on it, i'm leaning towards 1) no change in flooring, 2) no adding a gas stove and matching hood, 3) not building "built in" seating and table areas. it's perfectly livable the way it is, and if it's not entirely to your liking, well, go find your own place and decorate/furnish it to your pleasing. this is still my house.
