Router table issue

So I was trying out the router table and had the following issue:

While routing a profile on the end grain of a piece of Elm, the router just would not cut deep enough, even with several passes. The bit is brand new. The router doesn't slow down or bog.

What can I try?

    The bit has a bearing on top. I can't see it well enough to tell if it's riding properly.
