Cool! Is the light colored board in the center what you stated with?

No... at the top of the photo is a plaque that I picked up at a local thrift store. The light colored panel in the middle is a piece of Elm that I plan to turn into a second plaque using the fallout from the first plaque. I'll use the first plaque as a template for alignment while gluing the second. :)

me too

Two for one, nicely done.

Here's how I go about it.

After an issue with the router table ( I didn't tighten the router bit enough and it slipped down the collet. ). The plaque for the second welcome was ready this morning. I set the first plaque (holes) on soda bottle caps to raise it off the surface of plaque #2.

I used a foam rubber paint brush to apply the polyurethane glue. I laid the brush flat on a small roller tray and poured a small amount of glue on the surface, I then used the brush like a stamp pad to apply the glue to the piece and used the brush to lightly pat the glued end to distribute the glue evenly and thinly, by peering at the glued end at an angle I can tell if the whole surface has been coated

Once each piece had glue on it I gently inserted the pieces into the proper hole. I used a wooden coffee stir stick to tap the piece to ensure that the piece was at the bottom plaque and pressed to it.

Once all the pieces were placed, I carefully lifted plaque #1 off the glued pieces. At this point several pieces came up, so I manually placed them as well as I could.

From there it was just a matter of placing a solid piece of wood on top, then plaque #1, then a bag of beans for weight ( weight as a clamp ). I keep plaque #1 with the assembly so I can keep track of it.

later this morning I'll pull the weight off and check if all the pieces are firmly attached. I'm planning on this piece (plaque #2) to go on my front door. I will probably paint the top of the letters black to get a high contrast and make it more readable.

Since there's only the three of us ( me, myself, and I ) I can't take as many photos during the process as I'd like to. I think my bottle of glue was getting old, the glue ran slowly and seemed a bit thick. So I was a bit rushed. 🙃

Think I need to use this concept to have "someone else" to blame when I mess up!! 😉

It's not a pretty sight when the three of them get into a knock down and dirty fight. 😵
