Around here "Two Weeks from Anywhere" it'll be another weekend so it looks like I won't get caught up to the mowing again.

Just about get things dried up enough and it again.

What's on Your Weekend Agenda?

Over the past 2 days we had 3.5" of rain, sop I won't be in the yard. In the 38 years we've lived here I've never though we had enough rain in August/early Sept.; but this year we have. Anyway, I'll be getting my sideboard approved (or not) for use in the house and I need to find some ideas for a jewelry box for one of our granddaughters. Otherwise I'l be trying to find something to watch on TV that's not football.

Neighbor and I were just talking the other day that we can't remember an August or September when our grass was this green and growing like it's spring. This is usually the time of season when the grass slows down & turns to that nice brown hue.

That being said, I'll try and cut the grass today because the weather folks are calling for rain the next 7 days.

Amen to the rain. The neighbor has a rain gauge and said we got 4" from Thurs to Sunday last week. Like others said, normally Aug & Sept are dry enough to only need mowed every 2-3 weeks. Well, I'm mowing every 2-3 weeks but only because the grass and ground is too wet

I guess we have been fortunate in the "too much rain" department. Actually, it's been a little less than "normal". The ground water, for wells, is currently at 80 3/4' BLS where historically it is about 76' BLS.

I need to put in a new condensate line for the AC, going to try to get it done this weekend so that it's already done when I upgrade the heat and AC. The installer I talked to this morning would probably do a good job, but the first one I didn't trust to do it the way I wanted so I figure I should just make it easy on them and do it myself.

Also planning to go buy some zebrawood for making inlay banding. Not a project I need, but I've learned to buy stuff when you see it because you may never see any of it again - Cocobolo was like that, readily available and the "cheap" rosewood in the 1990's, impossible to find 20 years later.

What's this 'rain' stuff you guys are talking about? We had some di-hydrogen monoxide drop out of some of those fluffy gray things the other day but it didn't amount to much of anything. That's the first we've had around here for the past couple of months. Plenty of hot and humid that I'd be willing to share. Been triple digit temps almost as long as no falling water.

Have finally been spending some time in the shop trying to remember how to build bowls. Will get around to posting pics if I ever get this current batch finished.

Y'all can send some of that rain down here when you get the chance. If an inch an hour was to come down it would not run off. Remember when I was a kid in La. the ground was cracked this time of the year and it is not quite like that yet.

Spent much of the afternoon running errands with the wifey. The rest of my time was to get computer updated and ready for video work at club meeting tomorrow. Oh that is it for tomorrow all day. Well not it afterall Tomorrow evening is Ole Miss vs LSU. I will let you guess who I root for. Born and raised in La. and two boys who went to Ole Miss. Church Sunday and a Church Widows Banquet for the evening. Heading over to Carencro Monday to visit my sister. Have not been down there since Covid started.

Grandson is home from work for a few days so spent the Thursday helping him dig out for egress window installation, yesterday the concrete cutters came to cut the holes in basement walls, the easy for me part( get to watch instead of work) till time to remove the cut outs( they are heavy 8" poured concrete) and install the wells, lots of shovel work, now today build frames and install the windows. We'll see how i feel tomarrow.

Almost seems like the weather has been arse-backwards this year.

Fall in Spring, Spring in Fall.

Out here the summer rain seems to be coming later in the year. Used to start reliably in early July, sometime middle of June, ending around early September. Now it seems to be starting mid-July and ending mid to late September. At my old job, that was getting inconvenient as we usually scheduled a 4 to 6 week summer maintenance shutdown starting early in July. I was just about to start suggesting we go with mid-July when I moved on to a new observatory. I don't have the feel for how maintenance shutdowns work here yet as I'm just catching the tail end of the 2026 summer. We'll see.

My neighbor over in NM is telling me there's been lots of rain (by our standards) the last couple weeks. Nothing like you guys are seeing in the upper mid-west, but enough to have the Rio Grande running bank to bank some mornings - unusual this time of year. We typically only see that when they open the gates up at Elephant Butte lake. The RG is most ofte a trickle or a fully dry bed as it goes through Las Cruces. It will run full from rain in the winter when we get a big storm system or if there are hurricane remnants coming through.

Another day at the theater scene shop. One of the things I did was to make lattice Xs, 43" tall, 24.5" wide, using some scrap, er, leftover, 3/4" plywood half-lapped in the middle. Also worked on a bar and bar tables for one of the scenes. Painter finished the "bus" and worked on the "Hollywood Hills" wall.

Just another rainy Sunday, feels like a Monday...

well, since we didn't have a monday thread this week, i'll just leave this here, got these made yesterday, stenciled this morning, little target stands for 1/2 size targets (9" wide) for use in various matches. a little target at 20 yards is a good challenge to hit well.

these 8, plus the 4 previously made, give us a total of 12 to use.
