Is anyone going to Handworks in Amana Iowa next week??

That looks like an awesome event. Amazed at the number and diversity of the vendors.

There is a great YouTube video by Wood by Wright from the 2023 event.

I am planning to go to the event next week. I'm pretty uneducated on handtools but trying to learn more. I think this type of woodworking is harder to learn from video. This event looks to be a good opportunity to soak up information, and maybe even buy a tool or two.

Oh My! I'm not a hand tool person but my next 2 years' allowance would be gone in no time!!

Make sure you stop by the bank before heading to IA. The only thing cheap will be the entrance fee, but I'm sure you will have a good time rubbing elbows will some of the greats.

Items may very well be out of my price range, but will be a chance to learn being around the designers/makers of tools and all the woodworkers that will be there. I don't have many connections with other woodworkers locally so this looks interesting - as noted "rubbing elbows with some of the greats."

I didn't watch that entire video, but that looks like visiting would be a lot of fun. I did see one little piece where the guy showed the video host a piece of Jarrah (spelling?) from Australia. The piece was probably 6x18", maybe 1" thick. He speculated that it weighed 7#. We used to have an Australian visitor here that used a lot of Jarrah (Derek Cohen)and he did some absolutely incredible work.

Saw this video by Lincoln Street Woodworks came out on the new tech by Harvey (tablesaw) and Sawstop (bandsaw). Interesting...and likely in contrast to what I'm expecting to see at the Handworks event.

I had seen the bandsaw information recently but the Harvey saw looks great!

That Sawstop bandsaw really has some nice features as well....and I'm not referring to the safety stuff. I do like the Harvey bandsaw as well.

This is what I am thinking.  Many production/commercial shops and classroom settings felt compelled to purchase Sawstop TS’s to avoid potential lawsuits in the unforeseen case of a user accident.  Will the new SS bandsaw start the same reaction?

Much shop time is spent on TS set-up.  It appears the new Harvey D-1 TS helps to reduce the time needed and will help with having to set up to repeat the same cut.  Will woodworkers and production shops see this as a must-have?  Danl

Well, canceled the trip to Handworks. 😕 We were traveling via RV and with the temps predicted, not really workable (our AC and the refrigerator cannot keep up with the high temps). Ironically the next week looks like perfect conditions! Here in Missouri this week is expected to be the hottest of the entire summer.
