My serpentine drawer piece

It's took me a long time to get to this point. This started with me complaining about a furniture piece we have. It's quite ratty looking but for some reason the other human in our house loves it. Anyway, my complaints led to "well, why don't you make a new one?". That was last year right after Christmas. I forgot to mention to Marie that it was not only ratty looking, but the design really sucked (IMO), and her expectation was the replacement look like the old one. Soooo, since I believe the customer is always right I took on building the replacement. Let me mention, my belief about the customer being right is something I don't want to put up with, one of many reasons I don't do this type of stuff for others...but when the customer lives in the same house; well, you know. Anyway, I have the carcase glued together and here it is with the drawers sitting in place. I still need to make the stile that goes between the 2 top drawers and a mirror frame for the full length mirror that sits on the top of thing. The original was made out of oak, and stained very dark. the replacement is cherry and I'll probably give it a coat of garnet shellac and then top coat with an alkyd varnish. So this is where I am after 8 months, with the top just sitting on it, I should mention, though I don't like the design, it was fun doing this, especially the drawer fronts. One other thing, the original had wooden wheel casters on it (the 50s stuff) and I have some for this, it will make it about 4" taller.

Wow! Looking great!

That's absolutely amazing how you made those drawers, Fred! The entire unit is gorgeous.

Absolutely outstanding, can't wait for the finish to go on. Very well done.
