Kreg's loose tenoning tool, similar to the Domino is coming out next month. $500 for it, battery powered only. Some good reviews and a few pros and cons.

I currently am not making much that would need loose tenons, though that may change as I might have 3 grandchildren starting new homes in the next few years.

In the interim, I have several biscuit cutters, a BeadLock (AKA poor-man's Domino), a mortising machine with several cutter sizes, and a jig to cut mortises using a plunge router. The latter is set up for 3/4" stock, but I can easily make another one in an hour or so.

Thoughts? Who's rushing out to get one?

I am not rushing to get one, but I do have a Domino (head hanging in shame). That said, I still regularly use my biscuit joiner and i also have several other ways to do M/T joints. But I will say this: I've come to like loose tenons a lot. You can cut your pieces to the needed length without adding something for the length of the (integral) tenon. The Domino mortiser makes the job go much faster as well, though that is fairly unimportant to me....I'm never in a hurry.

Yes, that was my first biscuit joiner, too. I did not like the sloppy depth adjustment. When they came out with the new model (557?) I got it. Gave the original to a son-in-law who has done a lot of home remodeling. Then I got a second-hand Delta benchtop model, that is great for small pieces. Later, I tried to switch the 557 cutter blade to the face-frame size and I could not get the bolt off. Took it to the local Delta service shop and they couldn't either so sent it back to the factory. Then factory then sent me a new one, repaired the original and sent to me. So I have one with the regular blade and one with the FF blade.

I have given up arguing with people who say "Biscuits are for alignment only." I've gone thru thousands of biscuits for structural joints, none of which have failed over the last 35 years.

I think this video by Lincoln Street is a pretty good overview of the new Kreg, with some comparison to the Domino. They are similar in some aspects, but not so much in others.

I had the Same PC biscuit joiner. Just did not have a further need so I sold it. Cannot say I was highly impressed with it either.
