May 28May 28 Popular Post I don’t remember if I mentioned it, I know a guy that owns a sawmill. I buy all of my wood from him for making bowl blanks for the Woodcraft classes that I teach. I also buy wood for myself. He will sell me anything for $1 a board foot. Last time up there he gave me a piece of maple and said he thinks it might have some curl, take it and see if I can do anything with it. I am cleaning and organizing the shop today and pulled a few boards down from high storage and planed them down to see what I had and put them in low storage. This is the curly piece he gave me.

May 28May 28 How thick are those pieces?A fellow gave me something he said was flame box elder but when I turned it I never found any red. It did have stripes, ambrosia and some spalting. If I remember correctly I turned it with end grain orientationMaybe a shallow bowl or platter would look good, too.
