The fall of the Domino?????

Featured Replies

I believe the entry price does not include battery and charger. Which makes be believe they purposely made it battery operated to get you to use their battery platform tools.

In the video I saw the woodworker easily slipped in the domino. When using the Festool tool and domino/tenon, the tenon has to be hammered in. Not certain in the Kreg made mortise is larger of the domino is smaller. Makes no difference when a larger mortise is desired.

It appears that the operator can change the mortise size when the tool is not running. A good change.

Look out Festool. Danl

I thought the patent on Domino expired last year. Surprised it took so long for someone to come up with an alternative.

You may be right, it was introduced to the market (according to the Festool website) in 2006. It might be a fair guess that the patent was acquired a year ahead of that (?). I have no idea how long a patent lasts, but something makes me think it's 21 years.

We had the Domino in the fab lab I taught in. You can adjust the pocket width which helps account for imperfect spacing down a long board joint. I the dominos are too fat then they've been left out in the humidity and swollen a bit. Normally they wait for glue to swell up tight when inserted.
