April 17Apr 17 Popular Post I have so busy lately I have been neglecting to get some small projects done for some friends. First is a chair tray for a friend who due to his medical condition spends a lot of time in a recliner. It’s made of maple. The second is a flag box for for a close friends father’s flag. It is sapelle. The first coat of finish is on the table. I am using the Hassui ceramic finish. I saw the previous post requesting info on glass for the flag box. Any glass shop should be able to supply it. Hopefully I will go get the glass for this one tomorrow. Paul
April 18Apr 18 Author Popular Post Well it turns out that no glass shop around me was willing to cut a piece of glass for me yesterday. So off to HD. The piece was $18 for a 18X36 piece. Since it’s 3/32 glass it cuts pretty easy. I also got the first coat of finish on the flag box.
April 19Apr 19 Author Popular Post The flag box is done. Slight problem in the way the flag was folded. Definitely not symmetrical. I guess the only thing I can do is attempt to refold it. ??Paul Edited April 19Apr 19 by Masonsailor
April 19Apr 19 Popular Post The one for my F-I-L looks like that. I've seen many that show up that way, and when i looked into trying to re fold it I read (somewhere) that you aren't supposed to do that. It's a tradition, unfolding the flag releases the spirit of the soldier (as best i can remember) and shouldn't be done. Maybe some of our veterans can straighten me out if I messed that up. Anyway, I decided to just leave ti alone.
April 19Apr 19 Author Thanks Fred. You are right. I just had another vet tell me that also. Oh well. Paul
