I recently joined the forum as the proud new owner of a used Delta P-20 Scroll Saw. I'll be picking it up from its former owner this coming Wednesday. I've never owned a scroll saw, so thought joining here might be a good way to start and get some advice from all the experts. I've been mostly focused on woodturning and am a member of two clubs in the Metro Portland, OR area. My vision is to use the scroll saw as a tool to enhance my turning work. I have a vision of creating some small bowls in the shape of maple, oak and other Pacific Northwest tree leaves. That said, now that the used scroll saw will soon be in my shop I think the first step will be to go through it top to bottom to make sure everything is right with it. I might be asking for some ideas as I do that. Then I hope to be off to the races. The first piece of maple is laying on my workbench ready to be turned and shaped. In the meantime I thought I would post a few pics of some of my recent work on the lathe along with the Google Gemini AI enhanced photos I've created. One of the turning clubs does a monthly Show & Tell event using a Zoom meeting format. We send in pictures to our facilitator with some basic information about species, finish, size, techniques, etc.. He then assembles them in a presentation that he shares during the Zoom event and we each talk about our work and answer questions. It's a lot of fun and I am capable of taking fairly decent pictures, but finding the Gemini system has really opened a door to some fun stuff. Anyway, here's some of that work...Regards,Vern

April 14Apr 14 Well, you've landed in a great spot, we have a few skillful scrollers here and quite a few talented turners (I am not either one). As for the donuts, if possible you kight want to delete that pic, before long someone will be along that may try to take a bite of one of them.
April 14Apr 14 You certainly know how to perk a person's appetite for not only donuts but turning. WELCOME, amazing work looking forward to seeing more in the future. Rusty S.

April 14Apr 14 Welcome to the site Vern, great to have ya aboard and wonderful work you got there! I am amazed how folks can use the AI to enhance images, in your case, you are not falsely enhancing your own work to make it look better, but you are showing your work in a different environment. This is great for marketing, you have your pizza cutter, and you AI'd it to include it cutting a pizza in a restaurant, that's an excellent use for marketing your pizza cutter. I like that, I had not thought of doing that myself with anything I have made. But then, that being said it's been sometime since I've made much after AI got as good as it has. But I'll certainly use it in the future as you have, thanks again for being here!
April 14Apr 14 Author Thanks John. I used AI as a play tool. I don't sell any of my works (too lazy to create inventory). It is fun to use in certain situations and I'm using it now in letters that I write when I gift someone a piece. I have a standard format letter that gets included that describes the species of wood, draws some info from The Wood Database, talks about finish, care and where the wood came from. I write the letter as though it's the workpiece speaking, not me. Kind of fun as well and I find most people enjoy reading the letter and knowing about the pieces. I watch other members in my turning club prepare to sell their work and think two things. (1.) That's and lot of work to get ready for a show, and (2.) in my limited experience it's rare when you can do really quality work and receive a fair price return that includes a profit when your time is factored in.Vern
