April 11, 2026 I had the opportunity to attend a workshop hosted by the St. Louis Woodworkers Guild where Jeff Miller from Chicago was the guest, and he presented

o   Bending Techniques: Methods for bent lamination to create strong, graceful curves.

o   Joinery for Curves: Practical advice on creating tight, durable joinery in curved and shaped furniture parts—often a source of worry for builders.

o   Design & Philosophy: How to conceptualize curved designs and the “why” behind the shape.

o   Hand Tool Use: A look at the jigs, set up, specific hand and power tool maintenance strategies Jeff uses to get reliable results

Jeff’s craftsmanship can be seen from his website furnituremaking.com.  Danl

That's cool you got to do that.

Very cool Dan, man, I checked out his website, that man has an eye for design! I don't know if I'll ever have anything uniquely "ME" that I build, all my work is a takeoff from those better than myself. To have that eye like this man has, to design like that is, is pretty cool, I admire that.

I've read a few articles by him in FWW, he knows his stuff. I think Matt Seiler (remember him?) knows him personally through one of the Chicago furniture trade organizations.

I had the privilege of having dinner with Jeff Miller. He told me that he was writing a book about design. I believe Matt Seiler is working with HIghland Woodworking. Danl

I wasn't aware of that. Did he relocate from the Chicago area to the Atlanta area? Matt was pretty active here for a while after the Wood Forum shut down. IIRC, Matt went from a large shop setting to a much smaller location at/ closer to his house shortly after the Wood separation. Miss having him active here.
