April 6Apr 6 Popular Post I made a couple of these, one to sell and one for my granddaughter. I stack cut these four deep. 1/4" Elm throughout. FD #1 blades for all the pierced cuts. BLO followed by shellac for the finish. I don't remember the name of the designer, if I run across it I will update. One of the things I had to deal with was the lumber for the sides was slightly bowed. So, when I assembled the parts I clamped the bow out of the sided and then pinned the tenons, when the clamps were released the tension locked the pins in place, that sucker isn't coming apart unless the sides are clamped again. :) Another issue was the drill bit used for the pilot holes bending inside the hole. one of the centers for the flowers show a hole at the outside edge and this was using premium cobalt alloy bits, I've watched the bits start to bend on contact with the paper pattern. I would love to try some solid carbide bits, but $$$. The bottom is also pinned in place, no glue or fasteners (other than the pins) hold this one together. :
April 6Apr 6 Popular Post Gorgeous work. Now a question, how fast are you spinning those little bits? 1/8 in. AND under need a terrible amount of speed 4000 rpm is about right to slow and it bends or breaks. Just curious 🤔
April 7Apr 7 Those are incredible Wich. The detail is just amazing. I can't imagine the level of patience required. How long did it take to cut this out?

Just curious 🤔With the full size drill press I max out at 3500 rpm, with the new mini drill press it will be 7000 rpm, with the Dremel and plunge router adaptor it's 25,000 ( yes, twenty five thousand ) rpm, I use cobalt alloy drill bits, they are rated for high heat.
