We had a big nest next to our drive and exterminator had to come back 3 times to get them all.

Before it happened to me, I didn't pay much attention. I never dug mine up but it is a little scary to know how bad it can get.. I found two 3/4"dia holes they were coming from so I put a transmission funnel in one of the holes started pouring anything I had on hand down there. The guy in the video said it did that job for free because it was such a great example for YouTube content .

This is the nest of "Bald Faced Hornets". My neighbor had one like it in her front yard Maple tree. They grow real huge. Really huge! Thousands of them in one nest. Thousands!!

They are all black with white markings.

They are the most fierce of all wasps and at the top of the wasp family tree. When they fly at you they hit like a bullet. Believe me I know. I took the nest down out of the tree. Lots of fun!!

Years ago we had them (bald faced hornets) build a nest on the overhang of the front porch. I mentioned it on another forum and got loads of advice on how to deal with it DIY. I called an exterminator, that call cost $90.....which was the same as a copay on an ER visit. It wasn't that hard to decide how to handle it.

If 90 bucks is the set point, I would have to decide how much pain crosses the 90 dollar line. The skeered factor alone would have me paying the 90 bucks and offer a tip.. Here's the tip: One of the handiest first aid type things I have is a home made flexible ice pack. A 50/50 mixture of rubbing alcohol and water in a ziploc bag (approx 1/2" thick laying flat) kept in the freezer. Leave it flat and it takes up very little room and can be grabbed fast. The faster you can freeze a bite or sting, the less pain you will have...
