February 23Feb 23 Popular Post My wife and I purchased a bedroom set from Grainwood Furniture. A company out of VA, who imports from Brazil. Now your probably asking, why is a woodworker buying wood furniture.Well, firstly I just don't have the time to build or get into a project like that, secondly we are moving this Summer back east and we just needed something to help show our home when we sell it, but can still take with us to use for a guest room perhaps in our new digs.I wanted real wood, no partice board at least. So we ended up with Grainwood Furniture. I am impressed. I put the bed together today and it's rock solid, all wood, I think Brazilian Pine? But much harder than North American Pine, I snapped off a couple screws before I decided to predrill. So here's a few pics of the bed parts, and the bed finished. The bed on its own runs about 368 bucks queen size, but we got the set, so I'll have a few more peices to show y"all. For the money, we are very happy. By the way, this set replaces our 32 year old set of oak veneered particle board that survived two moves, three bouncy kids from birth to adulthood, 4 cats, 4 dogs, and whatever else ya wanna throw in there. So maybe there's a lot to be said about 1990"s particle board furniture!Solid wood parts. And the finish is nice too.Pretty nice I think! And our kitty cat Juniper supervised. I swear she don't know she's a cat, she'll hang with us all day, talking, jiving, I sincerely believe she believes she's human. The company. February 23Feb 23 We have a couple of similar pieces in a spare bedroom. Same characteristics, solid wood (pine?), IKEA type construction, from Brazil. Don't recall the company, but they are serving their intended purpose. Edited February 23Feb 23 by JimM
February 23Feb 23 Radiata pine maybe? It's good for furniture. I remember it was all over the place in Chile when I visited a friend there. Chile has large plantations of it and what you see for sale is generally clear wood. Brazil has a "pine" species - not really pine but similar enough to name it that - but I don't know if it's used much for lumber.
February 23Feb 23 Brazilian Pine which is typically Parana Pine (Araucaria angustifolia), a soft wood from Brazil, has a Janka hardness rating of approximately 810 lbf (3,610 N) as compared to the 380–420 lbf rating for North American Eastern/Northern White Pine. It's twice as hard. It also offers significantly better dent resistance and structural strength for furniture and flooring as well. So .... Good buy John!
February 23Feb 23 Author So, I'm looking for the IQ test on this six drawer chest. Remember those? Pretty good material. Same quality as the bed. Pay no attention to the carpet color difference where the old dresser sat since the day we bought the carpet 24 years ago. We had the carpet cleaned a few days ago. Still embarrassing! We have three bedrooms to recarpet before the sale, 560sft.

So to put together a pedal car fire engine, they would have time limits, each time limit would equal an IQ score. half hour equals, 1 hour equals, 2 hours equals, etc etc. It was fun for the adults. Some of the tests were completely adult oriented, 30 minutes = 2 beers, 1 hour = a half pint, etc etc. 😄

February 24Feb 24 South or North Carolina? I heard for the first time in California's history that more people are leaving it then going to it? Edited February 24Feb 24 by MrRick
February 24Feb 24 Author Not sure Rick on which Carolina, Tennessee is still an option too but we are favoring South Carolina upstate, since we have friends that live nearby there. Ya, California has been losing folks for sometime now. It's a dumpster fire here. We just want to find somewhere to live where other Californians aren't, we are cancer on this nation wherever we go, hopefully my wife and I can find some untarnished town to move too, off the mainstream grid, and still set in the ode ways, in many ways. 😀

February 24Feb 24 John,... and still set in the ode ways, in many ways. 😀My grandparents lived in Titusville, Pa. all their lives. My Dad and his siblings all grew up there. Then my Dad went into the USAF to help them out. He retired from the Air Force. Titusville is a beautiful little town. Today it hasn't changed.
