Here's a rabbet plane I made out of Pine.

It has an adjustable fence and depth stops. The fence is on the bottom (see top photo). You loosen the brass screws, set the fence and re-tighten. Same with side depth stops (bottom photo). Loosen screws, set, and re-tighten.

I made it to take my Stanley 750 Sweetheart 1/2" chisel.

I made it out of Pine as a prototype test and it worked so well that I wish I had made it out of hardwood.

Oh well. If it wears I'll do some boxing on it.

Nicely done! Nothing wrong with a pine prototype to verify everything works and lasts. Should any aspect of it show up that fails or could be improved you can incorporate the improvements in a nice hardwood updated version.
