Beside the subject, your images and layouts are a delight to read." Though I have other marking gauges including one from Lee Valley, I wanted to make a pair of my ownSo I made these Mortise and Marking Gauges. They are made out of Red Oak.The heads on both work the same way. You unlock the locking tapered wedge, position the head and re- lock the wedge. Pushing on the narrow end unlocks it. Pushing from the wider end locks it.This is the scribing pin end of the marking gauge. Here's what the marking gauge looks like disassembled. As mentioned, the mortise gauge head (below) locks and unlocks the same way as the marking gauge above. You can use it also as a marking gauge. The top scribing pin allows you to rotate the gauge and use as a marking gauge. The two scribing pins allow you to use as a mortise gauge. To adjust the scribing pins for mortising you unlock the head wedge first. Then you unlock the little wedge at the rear. This allows the bar to slide. Then you relock it.You can space the mortise spacing you what you like. Thanks for looking!Cheers!!MrRick Edited February 18Feb 18 by MrRick
February 19Feb 19 Those are the beautiful tools Rick. I especially like the adjustable mortice marking one. Very clever. Thanks for sharing the detailed pictures.
