Here's a cam locking vise that I designed and made out of Maple.

Thanks for looking!

Cheers!

Ok you have piqued my interest . How does it work?

That's pretty cool Rick. Nice clean look and design. Good choice on the wood and finish.

Thanks Dave!

Looks good. I'm going to guess that you slide the jaw up snug, tighten the screw on the side, then twist the cam lever to tighten tight.

Curious how well you think it works MrRick?

Close. You pull the knob, slide the jaw where you want it, insert part l loosely to be held, push the knob back in. Turn cam lock handle to tighten. Jaws are replaceable by pulling little knobs up.

It's strong and works well. It was a "see if I can make my own" experiment type of project. It's bulky but very useful for holding small parts.

So the knob has a half nut or some such to engage the threaded shaft (s?) when pushed in? I couldn't tell the shafts were threaded in the small photo, and my web browser wouldn't show the large photo. Likely a large file that my very slow web connection times out on.

I'm a big fan of cam levers and have used them many times on past project. Your vise application of one intrigues me.

I'll suggest sticking some adhesive-backed sandpaper on the jaw faces. I've found wood surfaces to be a bit slippery when forces want to pull/push parts being held against them.

Very great work! Very clean too.

@ 4DThinker..I have two other sets of jaws. One set has sandpaper on the faces.
