Since I purchased the near new shopsmith mark v 510 for only $200 I decited to turn my old 500 into a decated drill press. However after I finished the transformation I decited that I needed a better quill lever handle but after checking prices for a three handle one I decited I would make one myself. You can see the results in the attached picture.

I allready had a round piece of aluminum so I used the new drill press to drill a 5/8" hole in it so it would fit the guill feed. I then drilled and threaded it for a shopsmith set pin to secure it to the quill feed. After that I drilled and threaded four holes for the arms. I used 3/8 steel rod for the arms and threaded them to match the holes I drilled for them. I also threaded the other end of the the rods so I could add balls on the end.  I created the 2" balls on my 3d printer with holes to screew on the rods. I assembled and installed the parts which I think turned out great. The best part is that it cost me nothing to build, just some time. I would like to make one for my 510 but finding the round piece of aluminum and the high price is to restrictive so I will not be doing that. My next project is to make a storage shelf for the 510.

Well done Ozzie. Looks like factory made.

Version 1.0 looks great.

Why not try a good piece of solid hardwood for the second iteration? You are a woodworker after all!

Not sure what kind of dense wood you can get up there in the wilds of the west coast, but around here I would go with mesquite. Easily worked and dense enough to hold threads for the arms.
