December 2, 2025Dec 2 Here's a 1/4" Grooving Plane that I made out of Spalted Maple. The center portion ( dark brown) is Torrefied Maple. The rest is slightly Spalted Maple. The Escapement side seen here is also the side that acts as a depth gauge. Max depth is 1/4. The farside (the side seen here resting on the table surface) is the fence that rides against your workpiece edge. It also offsets the groove to be 1/4" from the workpiece's edge. It's a great tool for doing cabinetry. Really handy for making Shaker style doors or any for that matter. Great for pictures too. With a little imagination and fore thought it becomes a very useful tool. Here I'm making a picture frame out of some pine. With 3 passes the groove is done. The sound and feel of it while it cuts the groove is simply unreal beautiful!! I kid you not! Cheers! Thanks for looking. MrRick
