This is a "Quick Release Drill Press Vise" that I made entirely out of Red Oak.

I used 1/4"-20 threaded rod and hex nut. I turned the handle on my drill press.

The handle slides forward and backward freely and can be locked anywhere along the way by turning the handle clockwise.

Here's a close up of it setup on my drill press.

Here's a YouTube of it in acton.

Interesting! Is the quick release slider metal or wood?

It's steel flat bar from HD. 1" wide x 1/8" thick.

Very clever. Nice looking vice. I love the shape of the handle. It looks very comfortable to use.

Thanks Grandpadave52. I made it the old octagonal shape. Made some for chisels too. They won't roll off the bench. You’re right.. it's real comfortable in the hand.
