The Woodsmith Shop show

So the Scott Phillips show came up in another thread, and i found out it's still telecast on my cable's PBS channel. But while looking it up I found the Woodsmith Shop show was right behind it. I taped both and watched them. Scott's show was a repeat of one I had seen before...but the Woodsmith show was a repeat that i hadn't seen. Some big surprises for me since I haven't seen it in a few years. All the mustard yellow tools are now green...Grizzly has picked up sponsoring the show (not sure when this was recorded). The hosts have changed as well, Phil Huber is now the guru, I guess that comes with the chief editor part of Woodsmith, there was another fellow whom I didn't recognize, and then there was Logan Wittmer. He's the chief editor of Popular Woodworking, so i was surprised to see him. Maybe August Publishing bought PW, which might make his appearance a little more understandable. this episode wasn't of much interest to me, but the shop looks to have been redone to some extant as well. that really cool workbench they used to have (and treated like fine furniture) is gone and replaced by one that's considerably smaller.  As for why I'm typing this...the weather is too nasty to go outside, and i don't watch football...so this gives me something to do for 15 minutes or so. Apologies for wasting your time (insert laughing emoji here).

I don't watch football anymore, either, so I had time to read this 😁.

Our local PBS station has abandoned all the woodworking shows except reruns of Scott Phillips and what's left of This Old House 😟

Both Phil and Logan were at the Grizzly fall sale event in Springfield Missouri. I was able to chat with Phil a bit at a log cutting demo that Logan was doing. They were also giving away copies of Woodsmith magazine. I learned so much as I was getting started from Woodsmith CDs so was neat to meet Phil who I had watched in the latter seasons.

To continue with the boredom, PW and Woodsmith are owned by the same company: Active Media publishing. Somewhere in here i though August Home publishing owned them. Oh, well....

Fine Woodworking, Poplar Woodworking, and Woodsmith are owned by Active Media Interest (AIM).  Danl

I think it occurred this season (2025). At least that's the first time I remember seeing it. Phil took over lead after Don sold Woodsmith. IIRC Logan came on air as co-host shortly after that. Chris Fitch is usually the third co-host. I think he was part of FW staff.

Woodsmith has an active YouTube channel with a weekly update of projects and articles I the works. Several people you don't see on the Woodsmith Shop show are part of that. The PM stuff is still around in the various shop studios.

I've also noticed a lot of Ryobi tools now on the PBS show although not listed as an official sponsor.

In Dec. 2023, AIM acquired Taunton Press.  Phil, Logan, and Mike are now one big happy family.   Danl

yes, AIM owns a bunch of publications.  Every woodworking magazine except WOOD Magazine that I know of is owned by them, along with a bunch of other things.  Only hope that "corporate" doesn't run them into the ground like many executives do,
