Wall Framing Stud Placement Calculator

Featured Replies

There's lots of wall framing calculators around that just count the studs, but none (that I can find) that actually calculate individual stud placements so you can mark them out on the plates. Simple enough to do for a wall with no openings, but with doors and windows, the opening side studs can overlap (or partially overlap) the common studs, and throw things out a bit.
So I've had ago at one on blocklayer.com    https://www.blocklayer.com/wall-framing-openingseng

The studs are color coded - red for standard centered studs, orange for opening studs, and blue if a stud needs to be moved to maintain centers, especially where there's a sheet join.
But to be practical, if an opening throws the centers out by only a 16th or 2, you wouldn't need to add an extra stud (blue) to cover it.
So there's a 'Tolerance' input and the extra blue stud is only shown if the center is off by more than the tolerance.
Does this make sense?
You can also adjust he sheeting joins left or right to miss opening edges.
All opinions and suggestions appreciated.
This thing is complicated, and tricky to code - like most software that tries to mimic the way its done by a tradesman, its very much harder than it looks.

Thanks Greg. Very useful tool. Appreciate providing the link. Good to have you posting again. It's been a while. Trust all is well "down-under?"
