That a long haired Kitten we have think THIS is HER bed....

Anyway...Red Circled item is a head to a Brick Layer's Hammer....

Got it all cleaned up...but, it needed a handle to work right...Trip to Menard's, since they are one of the few places that sell replacement Hammer handles...picked out one that was close...

Re-shaped to end a bit..with a spokeshave...end USED to be a perfect rectangle..and I needed one a little more Oval.....long time ago, I would be doing this with a piece of glass...

Got things fairly close to almost fitting all the way in...a little chisel work to clear a few splinters off....And finished driving the handle down...had to go back a open the sawn slot a bit and trim the wooden wedge for width...drove that in...then drove the 3 Steel wedges in..after I had trimmed the excess handle and wood wedge off the top...

I guess that should hold things in place...

Weight seems to be around 20 oz or so...

I tend to like wood handles on Hammers...easier on my elbows and shoulders...I also add that tape, to help with the grip..

Thinking maybe a coat of Blue paint on the metal head?   ala Vaughn 🤠

Great rescue. You're pretty close on the weight gestimate. I've got one waiting for a handle too. It's a Stanley. Says 24 oz. on it. I'll have to locate and update with the number. I finally drilled out what was left of the old handle. Spent a lot of time reshaping it with files. It needs paint too but what remained on it was black.

FWIW, Rural King, Tractor Supply and at least our Runnings also sells some wooden replacement handles.

Thanks. This reminded me I need to get a-round-2-it and finish. It was in a flat of stuff I bought too before I got sick last year.

Good job on that handle. I would like to turn one but just not into that . Too much other considerations such as grain. Still it seems that fitting it to the head is the tricky part and while I have gotten better  just not all the way there.
