May 26, 2025May 26 Popular Post I received an email this morning from HValley Tools wishing me a Happy Memorial Day. This email then went on to try and sell me some of their products just like most emails do. Well HValley, just what do you think I should be happy about today? Memorial Day is and never was a day of happiness! It is day to remember those who have given their ultimate sacrifice for their Country. Happy Birthday, yes, Happy New Years, of course but Happy Memorial Day, never. Edited May 26, 2025May 26 by sweensdv
May 26, 2025May 26 Popular Post I agree completely Dave, it's a very solemn day that has been bastardized into a commercialized holiday, drives me crazy when I see "Happy Memorial Day" all over the place.
May 27, 2025May 27 At least THAT email made no attempt to hide its purpose. Lots of other ones have much baser motives. On that thought, a friend got a call from someone pretending to be a bank employee, wanting info. Friend went to the bank, with the phone, scammer still on the line, handed the phone to the bank manager. Scammer promptly told the bank manager that he had placed a bomb in the friend's purse, and was proceeding to detonate. Nonsense, of course, but the Sheriff promptly shut down everything within a mile. The shopping center had a grocery store (go BASHA's!!), and they set up chairs and served donuts to all the people sequestered in the shopping center. Lesson: just hang up. Just erase the message. No need for blood pressure meds!! So much influence in our current lives seems aimed at encouraging outrage. Don't let outrage win: you'll live longer.
June 8, 2025Jun 8 Not sure about the weather in everybody's specific region but here in Ky Memorial Day officially kicks off the "Boating Season" on all of our lakes etc...runs through Labor Day. I worked at a Marina when I was in high school,..ask me how I know It's a party for sure. That being said I would add I have always had similar thoughts about the American Legion, at least our local one. I'm not even sure what the original purpose was for but here it is a place to party. It has been that way throughout my life. Up until a few years ago we lived in a dry county,...they got around it though with some sort of membership card system. Beats me, I just always thought it was a little weird. To each their own I reckon.
