I always learned this as FEW TEL, whether doing by hand, machine, or combination. F - flatten one Face on a jointer or by plane E - flatten one Edge on a jointer or by plane W - cut piece to Width, parallel to the prior edge with table saw or hand saw T - plane to even Thickness on planer or hand plane E - square cut one End L - cut to Length
