February 18, 20251 yr Popular Post On the FB Ringmaster group there has been quite a few posts about homemade PAGs. So, I had to take a stab at it. Been meaning to try this for a while and finally got a 'round tuit'. Mesquite and 1/4" brass rod. Built so I have the option to make shallow, wide ring bowls from thinner stock. Probably won't ever use it but 'better to have and not need than to need and not have.'
February 18, 20251 yr Author Precision Angle Guide It's for setting the angle on the Ringmaster to cut the rings. It's based on measurements made to .001" on the thickness of the initial blank. The Ringmaster has a degree scale that will get into the ballpark but the PAG dials it into a much tighter tolerance. The company that makes the Ringmaster has temporarily suspended production so these are hard to find. There's a FB group that has been looking into making these at home and I just had to give it a try.

Then threaded it myself. Boy, was that a pain in the posterior. It was exactly .25" diameter and all of the factory made bolts I had were .245". Took forever to get the die started until I sanded down the end of the rod to .245.

Mesquite with brass rod is a great combo — strong, stable, and it just looks right together. I like the mindset too: having the option for shallow, wide ring bowls even if you don’t use it often. Half the fun is experimenting and expanding the toolkit. Edited February 26Feb 26 by JamesSmi63
February 27Feb 27 No where above does it elaborate what it's for and how it's used? Care to elaborate?

February 28Feb 28 Lew pretty much hit it on the head. There are some math equations to calculate the setting but sometime in the last 20 years a chart was made so you can measure thickness of the blank in several places then average and look it up on chart for setting. sounds more complicated than it is. When I got my RM there were one 1 or two videos on using the jig. William Young had a forum and that is where I learned about RM.
