pad sander

Featured Replies

Just read a FWW article from 1986 on pad sanders.  That was about the time I had a Porter-Cable 330, the icon of the day.  But I got frustrated with it making "pigtails" in the wood.  Maybe I just had bad sandpaper, or more likely, bad usage.   Anyway, when random orbit sanders came out, I got one of them and the 330 has been sitting somewhere for the last almost 30 years.  The article made me wonder if I used some of the new Cubitron sandpaper with one, do you think it would be any better?

I have the PC 330 also and after 3 trips to the store to get a new pad it is working great.

Most fail to use  a sander combination before throwing out the sander as the fault. You can easily get pigtails or as we call them Curly-Qi’s if you don’t have the correct combination. The 330 was used a lot on production till it was replaced wit( a 332, 333, etc.  the 330 was then used for interior corners like doors. Often you’ll see one somewhere on a door sanders  bench, but often flat panels are sanded before assembly..
