Finally tired of the scale on my hybrid table saw.

Featured Replies

When I bought this hybrid 10" saw to replace my old Craftsman 8" stable saw it appear to have been a store sample or some such as the fence it came with and front bar were "pre-installed" with a scale strip marker focused on the metric side of the tape.  No adjustment possible to move the lens up to the imperial scale.  It also has a digital readout on the right side of the fence which works, but eats batteries as it can't be turned off.  It also prevented me from using my fence on the left side of the blade.

So today I decide to replace the scale and take off the digital readout.  Ordered a new adhesive backed tape from Amazon then went about seeing what trouble it would be to remove the old scale.  Just above freezing in my garage shop must have helped, as the old tape, including the strip read by the digital readout, all peeled off cleanly.  The last bit of adhesive scraped off easily with the push of a fresh utility knife blade.

Clean aluminum bar now, just waiting on Amazon to deliver the new scale.

As for digital read-outs, I've got one on my drum sander and planer as well.  As I'm not using these tools very often I find they need a new battery every time.  I was hopeful for that technology even though I hadn't ever needed it.  Perhaps in a production shop.  Wasted money spent in my own shop.

Agree on the battery thing. The CR2032s need replacing too often. I see the new Wixey angle box uses AA batteries maybe last longer.
My saw uses a Vega fence system. The front mount is a tube. The measurement tape came loose but I couldn’t find one that “curved” to match the tube. All the replacement tapes were either flat or curved “up” like those in a retractable tape measure. Thank goodness for double sided tape!

Scale finally arrived.  For the first time since buying this saw I can actually read the imperial measurements easily and see the metric row as well.

The fence bar has and identical opening on the other side that might be useful for left side of the blade markings.  Might do some research to see would take to set that up.

Funny, as I realize I rarely ever use the scale. I doubt it is zero-ed!

Marks on the work piece and or Starett square used in one way or another!

Mebbe I will go and set the scale zero. lol.
