Danl Posted September 16, 2024 Report Posted September 16, 2024 I switched over to Windows 11 approx. 1-1/2 months ago and since last week Tuesday I have been experiencing a problem I have not seen before. When I open an email attachment from MS-Office, the attachment is in MS-PDF format and cannot be changed. I can save the attachment on my computer in the intended format, ie. excel, docx, ppt. There is a line that informs me that the source format was, other than MS-PDF. I can only print in MS-PDF format. Pictures are not affected. I do not have this issue when I view my email from Yahoo. When I look at my MS-Office settings, I do not see an applicable option. I do not know if I inadvertently made a change. I do know that I noticed this anomaly after I chose to print a word doc in PDF a few times last week Tuesday. I am not certain if that activity had anything to do with the issue. Any advice or direction? Thanks in advance. Danl Quote
lew Posted September 17, 2024 Report Posted September 17, 2024 Can you log into your ISP mailbox portal and check to see what the extensions are before they are downloaded by your email client (Outlook) Quote
lew Posted September 17, 2024 Report Posted September 17, 2024 When you view your inbox on your pc, do the attachments have a .docx, .doc or .txt or are they all .pdf? Quote
John Morris Posted September 17, 2024 Report Posted September 17, 2024 Could it be in APP Defaults? Is there a toggle in there that says what format to open emails in? Perhaps when you printed that word doc to pdf, you inadvertently clicked on something that says "Always open this type with PDF" or something along those lines. Lew knows what I'm talking about. John, what you describe is what I think happened, but I can not find where it is at. Thanks Danl Quote
lew Posted September 17, 2024 Report Posted September 17, 2024 Try this Click Settings>Apps>Default apps>Choose default app by file type Quote
lew Posted September 17, 2024 Report Posted September 17, 2024 Expanded- If the extension name is still .doc/.docx then you need to change the file association for an email attachment. 1. Close your Outlook application 2. In the Window's search bar, search for "Default apps" 3. can manually change the default apps by file type 4. Open Outlook app Quote
Danl Posted September 17, 2024 Author Report Posted September 17, 2024 I think (not certain) I found what I did wrong. I was in word and wanted to print. I selected file and just below print is export. Export allows me to convert to PDF. BUT, I would think that this function is a one time use for this app. The App does not stay in PDF format. I searched for "Default APPS" and found the different office applications (Word, excel & PPT). I am able to select a different default format, but PDF is not an option nor is the current format selectable. So, not fixed. I also have another email issue, and I have not fixed my Sketchup issue. I'm trying to get my chest-of drawers complete but these computer issue are aggravating and taking time. Thanks for the help and suggestions. Danl lew 1 Quote
lew Posted September 17, 2024 Report Posted September 17, 2024 Was the “word” file, you wanted to print, an email attachment? Quote
lew Posted September 17, 2024 Report Posted September 17, 2024 In the default apps, you should make sure you have selected Outlook and the default extension is “.eml” Quote
lew Posted September 17, 2024 Report Posted September 17, 2024 Sketchup did not revert back to “Make Free”? Quote
