I notice that all (well, many of) the usual wood info sites are now "spawning" short bits of a minute or so, rather than the 30~60 minute tutorials of the past. I think it says something about the attention span of many viewers. Perhaps it's driven by a need to recruit new viewers? Report
September 13, 20241 yr comment_342308 i have limited time each day to cruise videos. if given one at 50 min, or 10 at 5 min, i'm more likely to view all or most of the 5 min ones. i'll (hopefully) learn 10 new things in the same time as 1 thing. too many videos ignore that "brevity is the soul of wit". sure, you can fill an hour discussing a topic, but you can also show me the essence in 5 min, with a link to a longer video if so interested. September 13, 20241 yr comment_342313 the video's thumbnail reminds me of Galileo's remark upon being convicted of heresy for claiming that the earth went about the sun, as he's led away to house arrest, he says "it still moves" Report
September 15, 20241 yr comment_342388 I "sample" longer videos, clicking on the progress bar along the bottom to see where it goes before investing any more time on the journey. Same technique works with over-written books: read the middle sentences of each page, keep it moving. Report
