Years ago I made this steam engine from a set of blue prints I bought.

Recently my sisters 3 year old grandson took a real liking to it.  I decided to make him something.  I looked around and settled on a set of plans from Wood Magazine.

Of course I made a few minor changes and added in my metal working abilities.  This in my version.....

I almost want to keep it for myself.

Very cool! Did you turn the brass on the wood lathe? What kind of tool do you need for brass?

Don't blame you... it's beautiful! How about making a second one, now that you know how to do it!?

The stacks are pieces salvaged from brass candle sticks.  The rest of it is custom.  Some I did on my metal lathe and some on the wood lathe.  Any of the tools will cut the brass.  I usually tilt the tool I choose to effect a shearing cut.  A scraping cut can cause vibration resulting in ripples and chatter marks.

VERY NICE!  The brass work really sets it off.

That is just plain cool Dan. Excellent design interpretation and over the top craftsmanship both in wood and brass.

BTW, your first one ain't too shabby either.

Wow ! Wishing I was your sisters grandson. :D  Beautifully done Dan.
