So I got my Carter and Sons Bowl gouge set with a 1 inch negative rake scraper today.  Was thrilled got them put together and went right out to the lathe.  Well had to work with a broken Banjo.  SHEESH.  But I got the outside of the bowl shapped at least.  Any of you guys know where I can buy a new banjo that wont cost me a Fortune for my Delta Midi Lathe?  As far as the carter and sons tools I absolutely love them.  OVERLY worth the money and then some.  And yes they come extra sharp ready to use right out the box.  I only got mine so fast due to the fact that I'm only about an hour away from them.  But any suggestions on midi lathe banjos would be greatly appreciated.  Mine kinda broke.

What is broken?

the part that is broken is actually the screw handle that locks in the tool rest

I actually used a bolt from home Depot today LOL to hold the tool rest in placed worked well but annoying.

looks like the threading on the origional banjo is entirely jacked up even from before the broken piece tried both metric and standard on that both didn't work. So looks like I'm going to have to order a new one.  Luckily if I order the one off amazon I can use some of the parts from the delta lathe to match it. so another two days of hurry up and wait.  Scratch the 2 day wait the new one will be here tomorrow so only a 20ish hour or so wait.  Also gotta fix my air nozzle.

Used the broken bolt to figure the thread size and carefully run a tap through the buggered up hole.  If you can't do it take it to a machine shop and see if they will help.  Worst case=== the machine shop could drill a new hole and thread it for you on the other side.

Dan gave you exactly what I would also suggest. No sense in throwing good money after bad.

I just ordered a new one which is fine as long as it comes with the lock on the back of the banjo for the lock down bolt.   Plus my machining tools not the greatest I already went down that route.  Either way the new one will be here today and hopefully all of the parts with it.

new banjo works perfectly fine on the lathe, how ever its a bit rough with the learning curve on turning on the inside of the bowl with the traditional gouges.  Still gotta work it out.
