steven newman Posted August 11, 2024 Report Posted August 11, 2024 I think Gene Howe will remember a Texas Bandsaw...that Gary gave me a long time ago....well. the current motor has started having "Issues".. and will need replaced.. IF you can get the breaker in the motor to not only reset, but STAY that way..it might run for a while....but.the next time you try to start it up...run, CLICK..DOA for the day So...the hard part will be getting this motor out...last time, I needed a floor jack... I do have a "spare".. That will need cleaned up and oiled up...test drive? If you didn't have your foot on top of the motor, you'd never know it was running....nice and very quiet... We'll try it out....while I save up for either a new 1hp motor...and walk into Harbor Freight the first week in January and buy a new 14" model... First, need the Gumption to work ON the floor of the shop, to drop the old motor and lift the replacement into place.. We'll see... Larry Buskirk, Grandpadave52, DuckSoup and 6 others 3 6 Quote

steven newman Posted August 12, 2024 Author Report Posted August 12, 2024 (edited) Sometimes, it is a simple fix to a problem.. Ok..the cord for the motor routes it's way up to an "outlet" on the back of the box that has the On/Off switch. As a last resort, BEFORE I start to crawl around on the shop floor......decided to trace where the wire went from the motor to the outlet...and see what I needed to do..as sometimes, there are wire ties in use...Cord was swinging freely, almost...decided to plug it into an Ext. Cord..and see IF it is the motor's fault.... Here goes.. Motor runs just fine...? Ok...a look at where it plugs into the bandsaw...because the grounding lug on the cord's plug was bend..a lot....tried to plug it back into the outlet...nada...didn't even reach....Hmmm, traced the cord back to the motor.... Apparently, the cord took the "scenic route" UNDER the motor....so...plenty of clearance OVER the motor...re-route the cord up and over....and all of a sudden....I had plenty of cord up at the outlet...with 4" to spare, even.....plugged the cord into the outlet..turned the saw on.....no issues, runs like new, again Apparently, cord was so tight in the outlet connection, that IF the saw jumped at all during a start up..the plug would loose contact...as it was being pulled out a bit...was barely in there, this morning when I went to checking... Just by taking a look..I saved almost $400 ( new bandsaw, H-F) or at least a sore back from crawling around on the shop floor, doing a motor change... Not sure how that cord got that way....work like new, now... This outlet right here.. Edited August 12, 2024 by steven newman Fred W. Hargis Jr, Grandpadave52, Gerald and 1 other 2 1 1 Quote
