Popular Post Grandpadave52 Posted August 6, 2024 Popular Post Report Posted August 6, 2024 (edited) ...the world was changed forever. I can't imagine the stress, anxiety and guilt felt by President Harry Truman, his cabinet, our military leaders, and the crew of the Enola Gay endured making and executing this decision. However, a land invasion calculation estimated over 1M U.S. military lives would be lost. The price of war is always high. May we always remember those who gave all they had...their lives. Al B Posted August 6, 2024 Report Posted August 6, 2024 I remember when this happened. How happy we were. How quickly the war ended. Now the bombs are hundreds of times more powerful. A nuclear war will end our civilization. Gene Howe, Grandpadave52, Fred W. Hargis Jr and 1 other 3 1 Quote
Popular Post John Morris Posted August 7, 2024 Popular Post Report Posted August 7, 2024 Gramps, thank you for the reminder. All my kids took the same history class with the same teacher in high school, and they were assigned one of two positions, the bombs either saved lives, or lost more lives. It was an interesting assignment. In the context of ending that war, and after helping our kids research the project, I have to come down on the side of "saved lives" as horrific as it was. Pray to God we never have to do that again, it would be devastating as Al alluded to. difalkner, Al B, Headhunter and 2 others 4 1 Quote
