Woodhaven Router Sled

A carving board for SWMBO has been on hold forever.  I couldn't get it to lie flat without rocking.  I'd been watching several models of router sleds and took the plunge this summer.  Model 3002 is their smallest for full size routers.  I also ordered their recommended bit.  Total cost under $400.

For me, this is a very good product.  The price is reasonable and it does what they say it will do.  I didn't have to use their customer service line, but reviewers have left positive comments.  The directions for assembly are clear and straightforward.

They stress to use this on a flat surface, so I used my table saw table.  This model will handle projects up to 39" wide.  Length is determined by the length of the rails you either make or buy.  I chose to make mine from a 16 x 48 sheet of 3/4" MDF following the included directions.

These rails provide the surface that the sled moves along.  I may put some poly along the sliding surface to make it move easier.  Other companies offer aluminum rails, which cost more, but may provide easier sled movement and stay clear of chips.

Funny how when you resolve an issue, things start to move along.  I was able to get the radius corners and the roundover edges done this afternoon.  Next is the juice groove and finishing.

Other than being a customer, I have no connection with this company.

Good review. Thanks Jim.

It's been quite a while, but in the past I've been very happy with Woodhaven. Products and service were (and are now, apparently) great.

Thanks from here also Jim.  This may just be the ticket I need to finish up a long unfinished project that I have.  And Christmas approaches, might be a good gift for someone like myself :D

Curious to hear if anyone on here has made their own...

My home made one is all MDF with aluminum aluminum Ls for the rails. It serves the purpose but, it's sure  cumbersome.
