What is behind the music

I have no idea where this should post but as it is a part of my shop I dropped it here 

Like many of us wood workers music in the shop is as  ubiquitous as the saw dust we create. I have a million favorites and am captured by the many lines and phrases penned by the writers and performers. Pretty near the top of my list is Hotel California. If I could hear this song one hundred times a day it still would not be enough. Some time ago I came across someone who presented their version of the real meaning behind  the lyrics of Hotel California. Since then I have enjoyed many others who offer a completely different  interpretation.   I believe the Youtube video linked here is the best and  most accurate unpacking of the hidden meanings and haunting lyrics. A word of caution it is a bit haunting and may take you to a place where you can check out any time you like but you can never leave.

Man I can't believe nobody replied to this Ed! Music in our shop is typically a great topic. I'll check out the video.

As far as music in our shop, I've got a few things going on, I typically play Pandora on my desktop PC in my shop that's hooked up to speakers. I have a plethora of music from Appalachia, Folk, Scottish, New Grass, Blue Grass, and older Country like George Jones, Hank, Cash, Jennings, and Classical too. I like no namer's, Pandora is great for that, I've found some wonderful independent artists on there that led me down a rabbit hole of new music I'd never heard before.

 

What a neat subject, I like to see what others are listening too.

I like pandora listen mostly there in the shop. Then there is everything else I am really all over the board depending on the day.

I stream Accu-Radio and blend 2 channels: oldies and instrumental oldies. It's one of my favorite reasons to be in the shop even if I'm not doing anything.

I only listen on Saturday so that it never gets old.  My really old iPhone 4S is hooked to speakers and subwoofer and I have a very customized Pandora channel that began as simply Peter, Paul & Mary but now it also plays John Denver, Dan Fogelberg, Simon & Garfunkel, Brothers Four, Kingston Trio, James Taylor, Ricky Skaggs and lots of other music like that.  Because my shop is the attached two-car garage, and we leave the door open into the shop, the music can be heard in the house.  I don't keep the music very high but it's still loud enough to hear in the house but not so loud that we can't talk over it.  For copyright reasons I pause play when I do video work, though.

You guys are way too hi-tech for this old geezer. I listen to a couple "local" oldies stations on my 1975 Zenith AM/FM/FM stereo table top radio; still like getting the local farm market updates at NOON. I also listen to a lot of informational/talk radio via our local American Family Radio (AFR) station. One exception is Friday nights during the fall; always tuned into our local station for High School football.

 

I do have an old Ipod that was attached to a mini AM/FM/ Cassette player I purchased at auction for a couple bucks. Ipod has the adapter to hook to the stereo. Ipod came loaded with a lot of previous owners music; some I really enjoy.

I have an older laptop hooked to a set of Bose speakers.  Station of choice is Spotify and genre depends on my mood. Could be Glen Miller to Led Zeppelin. Won’t be country.  I have scruples.

I usually have my noise cancelling ear pods in set to my favorites list on Spotify. It's a mix of just about every genre there is. I've always said that it doesn't matter what kind of music it is, if I like it I'll listen to it.

Lately I have been on a Christmas music kick myself with a bit of a twist.
Unknown to most people. a lot of punk bands throughout the years have done Christmas albums of one stripe or another.

Everything from reimagined and frankly amazing pieces like Dance of the Sugarplum Fairies - The Vandals, to original and thought provoking like Father Christmas - The Kinks, to traditional favorites like Hark the Herald Angels Sing - Bad Religion.

It is often surprising, frequently more heartfelt than one would expect, and occasionally amazing.

Working in cabinet shops we had to share. When I worked at Alco Cabinets , it was a religious shop. One day was religious, one day was hard rock. 
 

When I’m in the mood and under pressure to get something done in my shop, I’ll crank it up.
