Tonight was the dress rehearsal and other than a few small tweaks, the set is ready to go.

What is the show Keith?

It really does look awesome ! That set is pretty extensive. What wood did you use for the stairs ?

Yeah, we don't do small sets.  I sometimes look on Youtube to see other performances and our sets are 10x the size and complexity.

Six sets of steps, last count was 25  newel posts, bunch of railings and bannisters, one rolling platform with semi-circular guard rail across the front, six fluted columns, two of which load bearing, rear projection screen, 3 or 4 fog machines, strip lighting on the upper bannisters.

The visible steps we cut stringers from 2x12, the the treads and uprights are OSB.  The two on the sides that are mostly hidden are 2x12 stringers and 2x10 steps.  Since the upper platform has a big span unsupported, we use wood I-beam joists.  What  we found  though that they are not the same height as a 2x10.  Also because of the size, we had them delivered rather than me and the boss picking them up.   We got some really crappy 2x4 that caused us problems because many of them needed to be used for handrails but were full of wane, splinters, and rough spots.

Wow. It looks even better knowing the materials you had to use. From the pictures it looks like really nice wood. Definitely a credit to your skills !

Other than some glitches with the foggers on some shows, the show went well.  There were 54 actors in the whole play.  A number of them had solo singing and voice.  One of my granddaughters was one of the three leads and did very well.  She is the one with the glasses and curly pony tail.  My daughter was the producer and did a great job organizing all the many people, tasks, and schedules.  image.png.0329d2bf3b53d62a138ef1f9953d324b.png
