March 3, 20242 yr Popular Post I have an old piano stool with screw type height adjustment. It hasn't been used in quite a wile and the round seat will not turn. It is in the full down position. Could the steel threaded rod be seized? Should I try spraying some bolt release or anticize liquid on the threaded rod where it goes down into the base>\? Thanks Murray
March 4, 20242 yr Popular Post First, welcome!! There’s a good possibility that the threads are clogged with years of dirt. I would take the wooden seat off of the height adjustment mechanism and look for contaminated threads. Whatever fluids used to free the threads might damage the finish on the wooden parts so caution is advised.
March 4, 20242 yr Welcome to The Patriot Woodworker @Murray. Glad you found us and always great to have another Canadian member on board. Any chance you could post a couple pictures of your height adjustment? By seeing it might help to offer multiple solution options. Thanks for joining us.
March 4, 20242 yr If seat does not turn you may not be able to get to the screws to remove seat. Try lock ease on the threads at the hub. Then wire brush the threads.
