February 2, 20242 yr Popular Post Just got a video notification from Taylor Tools showing the newly designed CMT dado set. Apparently is approved for sale in Europe where dado sets have been banned for some time. Interesting features and design. DISCLAIMER: I have no affiliation with CMT or Taylor Toolworks.
February 2, 20242 yr Popular Post I just finished reading a dado set review that talked about that set. Apparently it has plastic disks that fit between the blades/chippers and keeps them in a fixed position relative to each other. The article said it was a little cumbersome but a welcome addition for the EU folks. It was the lack of the locking feature that (I guess) kept them form buying sets like we use. I have to admit I'm not sure I understand the problem with our type sets, but I'm not that smart anyway.

The video explained it as in a hard stop (Sawstop) the outer blades stop and inners continue and slice the carbide off the inner face of outer blades. {yeah try to say that with a mouthful of toast) . I have never heard of any such thing but can see a possible. Kinda like saying one of those redundant phrases we see in directions and say now who in the world would actually do that?

Given the momentum that would cause the inner chippers to continue on a SawStop I'd be surprised if the plastic that is intended to prevent that might shear off.

From what I read elsewhere, the set had undergone extensive testing all successfully. To gain approval for use in Europe speaks volumes. On a side note, Taylor Tools is already sold out.
