...and just saw that a Texas Rockler is selling wood "by the pound" 

 

Years ago the first time I visited Frank Miller they had lots of "shorts" in racks around the front desk in a wide variety of domestic species and it sold by the pound. Since then those racks have been mostly empty, so I'm not sure what their current pricing is.

It looks  like turning blanks. Exotics, burls, most coated in wax. And then just some small junk scrapes.

Yes, my most recent orders I had them deliver, but last time I was there, they had pallets of cutoffs for sale.  I don't remember the price.
