January 7, 20242 yr Well, my well used Oasis 15 inch planer decided to rebel yesterday, was trying to smooth one side to glue up some rails for a mahogany door a pard and i are building, anyhowz, it planed a couple then decided to lock up and not move the material, finding info on the oasis itself is tough, but it is identical to the griz, and a couple others, so finally finding some detailed diagrams i may be able to rectify the situation, gonna act like a tool repair guy, instead of a end user and see if i can finger it out, either a belt or pending on what the drive gears on the rollers are, could be them, anyone have issues with similar planer, diving into the unknown, gonna give it a go later, as it appears rain is coming so, there is that. happy sunday, why does equipment failure always happen in the middle of a project ugh. January 7, 20242 yr Popular Post Not any help nor familiar with the planer. Any chance it sheared out a knot or chunk of wood that's wedged between the rollers and or cutter head? Just a random thought.
January 7, 20242 yr Popular Post RJ, most of those 15" planers share the same design, so almost anything you find about a 4 poster will be the same. There's a difference in the styles regarding where the motor is mounted (top versus bottom) but the drive train on almost all of them are quite similar. In fact, Shelix has one set of instructions to install their cutterhead on the 15" planers that applies to all of them.
January 7, 20242 yr Author Popular Post my intention of getting a good review of problem today fell apart, ole gal had me driving her around as shes not a fan of driving in the rain, especially with all the neophyte s on the road here. lol thanks to all for info, will inform as time allows and problem solution arises. rj in az
January 8, 20242 yr Author Popular Post well now, i threw the heat on early am, and joint warmed to a mid 60s, just right for me to function reliably, lol, so checked the belt and condition, all well, nice solid, no cracks tension is as i fingered near where they recommend, checked the dust exit area, it was dirty but functional, pulled the shroud off the top and viewed the cutter head turning but the drive wheels no turning, speed knob on gear box was engaged or thought it was correctly, so i pulled the cover off the chain drive gear area which xfers drive from cutter head to a assembly of gears and chains for infeed and out feed rollers, after a few strickly Marine vocabulary used, . said knob got with the ''program'', and walla, appears it may function correctly, the reason said knob was in refusal mode, was lack of maint, on the owner/operators part, with that said, after a quick sushi lunch and a cervesas to get me courage up, gonna venture out, give gear and chain area a through cleaning and lubrication job, and assemble most of part for a safety check on running correctly, issue at hand is to remove cover on gear area, one has to remove half the dang machine knobs ect. lol sure glad phones have cameras, assemble with a little help of terrible photos should assist in proper re install, so heres hoping, also did read i should change the oil in xmission box, but me thinks i'll wait a bit till it warms up enough to have it flow like watta. instead of molasses on a winter day, i'm a little slow me self but sometimes rise for the occassion. just glad i may have solved problem, we will report back, once testing is complete. happy monday Rj in az

January 9, 20242 yr Author Popular Post the last picture is a yellow ended knob, that engages gears for speeds, it has somehow become disengaged in the last few months of non use, and the grease and saw dust has locked it in place, when attempting to ensure engaged, it appeared so, but a glob of gunkarama dingdong stuff kept it from engaging, took a bit to finger out, but process of elimination, and some interweb gurus, and walla issue resolved.
